Are you still officially certified to audit against the ISO 14001:2004 Standard?
Environmental Auditors who trained to the 2004 issue of ISO 14001, had a grace period of three years to update their qualification (as required by the replacement Standard, ISO 14001:2015). However this had to be completed by 2018.
Since no organisation is registered against the obsolete ISO 14001:2004, nowadays, it means auditors who haven't stayed up-to-date risk their audits being rejected during their employer's Certification audits.
We're occasionally contacted by auditors in this predicament, who've been unable to find a training provider still offering the required training. The good news is, it's still possible to rejuvenate your defunct Auditor certificate, thanks to our personal tuition service; as well as for groups of 3 or more, in-house or online.

Update or completely re-train?
ISO 14001:2015 has been around for a long time. The previous edition, from 2004, was fully replaced by ISO 14001:2015 at the end of the 3-year "grace period" in 2018. Training providers usually stop offering "Transition" training at the end of the grace period, but at SQMC, auditors who were trained to 14001 don't have to retake a full Internal or Lead Auditor course again to be "valid." Instead, you can keep your qualification up-to-date by taking this single-day SQMC course, which we provide as one-on-one coaching, at a time that works for you. Of course, larger groups can be trained, too, if required.
Please note, however, that auditors who are personally registered with IRCA will not be able to use this SQMC course to maintain their registered status.
Is this mandatory?
The Standard requires it for those already trained to previous versions; the latter of which became obsolete in September 2018. While an outdated qualification may be initially treated as an 'Improvement Request' by gracious Certification Auditors, during your organisation's surveillance audit, it will (quite rightly) become a non-conformance on subsequent audits, if not remedied.
