SBAC & SC21

The UK's aircraft and aerospace industry is the largest in the world outside the USA and a significant driver of regional and national economic growth and productivity. The UK based industry employs a highly skilled workforce of over 120,000 people and, as a major technology innovator, acts as a key stimulus to academic research.

SC21 (supply chains in the 21st century)

SC21 is a new change programme designed to accelerate the competitiveness of the aerospace & defence industry by raising the performance of its supply chains. International competition, together with the challenges posed by the defence industrial strategy, necessitates rapid improvement in the effectiveness of our supply chains. At the same time, industry must ensure that it delivers competitive solutions for customers whilst maintaining profitable business growth.

As part of SC21 implementation, a guidance document has been produced to promote quality system certification to AS/EN9100 (quality system aerospace model for quality assurance in design development, production, installation and servicing).

The AS/EN9100 standard includes ISO9001:2001 quality management system requirements and specifies additional requirements for the aerospace industry.

SBAC Objectives

The SBAC's expectation is that all members will gain certification to AS/EN9100 and that this shall be flowed throughout the supply chain.

Another innovation this month is the creation of an Audio Visual Aids (AVA) Dept. in SQMC for the provision of specialist training videos/dvds. As announced last month, we are now able - primarily as part of our post-course service to clients - to provide a series of relevent visual training aids for managers and other staff.

These are products from international management systems training video producers. New this month is:

“Riskmaker/Risktaker” (25 mins.): This video shows managers throughout your organisation the “7 Essential Steps” to manage the risks in the workplace. It will give them an insight into the cracks that can occur in the risk process that could threaten the organisation’s ability to achieve its objectives, and in some cases its survival! This would be useful for those managers new to the subject, prior to attending our QMS Lead Auditors course, or for post-course reinforcement of the subject.

The Learning Package consists of a DVD (chaptered), and a CD containing a very comprehensive Study Guide and PowerPoint presentation. Cost is £395 +VAT.
