ISO 9001 Transition Workshop (QMS)

A 1 Day Workshop including Lunch (public venues only)

Our SQMC “2008” Transition Workshop complies with:

IRCA 632 – QMS Transition Requirements

Aim of the syllabus

This syllabus is intended to provide guidance for IRCA training organizations and Organizations Employing Auditors (OEA) that wish to offer transitional CPD in the
principles, concepts and requirements of the ISO 9001:2008 for auditors currently competent to undertake 2nd and/or 3rd party audits against ISO 9001:2000.

This syllabus also provides IRCA certified QMS auditors with an outline of the areas that transitional CPD should cover, and QMS auditors should ensure that completed CPD logs submitted for renewal contain CPD that has covered the learning objectives in the section detailed below.

Learning objectives

A delegate who successfully completes the course shall be able to:
Understand the underlying philosophy and the principles, concepts and requirements of the ISO 9001:2008 standard, and how to apply them within an audit context.
Understand the key differences between the revised series of standards and the 2000 & 2008 version, and understand the implications of these differences for effective auditing against the revised standard.

Duration

IRCA will require QMS auditors to complete a minimum of 4 hours professional
development on ISO 9001:2008. Please see the IRCA/633 (below) for a breakdown of how you may achieve this development.

Other recommendations

Tutors, presenters and speakers involved in delivery of transition CPD, must be
competent in the audit of the ISO 9001:2008 revision.

Where possible we recommend that training and events include practical examples of changes required by organizations with a certified QMS, and how auditors could approach these changes.

Where possible we recommend that students, delegates and participants are given some kind of test of their knowledge to indicate to the individual how much he/she has understood, and any areas that may require more work or research.

SQMC will provide participants who complete transitional training or event with a
certificate that includes:
The participant’s nameThe date of the training or eventWhat was included in the training or eventSQMC & IRCA logos

IRCA 633 / Briefing Note, October 2008

Auditors must be aware that changes will be required to management systems in order to ensure effective audits against the new standard.

Transitioning your QMS Auditor Certification

This revision to ISO 9001:2008 is important and we will require you (IRCA certificated QMS auditors) to demonstrate that you have updated yourselves with the changes in the revision and that you understand the implications of these changes in the context of your QMS auditing activities.

Transition requirement for IRCA certificated QMS auditors

All IRCA certificated QMS auditors will need to complete a minimum of 4 hours professional development focused on the changes in ISO 9001:2008 before completing any acceptable audits to the revised version ISO 9001:2008. This development and your completed audits will be reviewed during your normal tri-annual renewal of certification. You must include details of your relevant development in the CPD log that you submit as part of this process, and note which version of the standard each audit was conducted against in your audit log.

When does this start?

We (IRCA) will accept transition CPD and audits to the new standard from November 2008.

What kind of CPD will IRCA accept?

We (IRCA) do not require QMS auditors to complete any specific transition CPD, and you may achieve this in a number of ways as is consistent with usual IRCA approach to CPD:

• On the job training
• In-house training and seminars with your company
• Attendance at relevant conferences, seminars and workshops
• Reading (this briefing note and other relevant articles)
• A specific QMS auditor transition course (like SQMC’s)

IRCA will provide a list of ISO 9001:2008 events and seminars that are acceptable for transition: this will not be an exhaustive list and other CPD is acceptable. These events are offered by IRCA approved training organizations and OEAs, but are not formally certified by IRCA and, therefore, do not fall under IRCA control even though we accept them for CPD along with other training and events. You will find a list of such courses and events at IRCA.org as soon as
they become available.
