A 2-day course based on IRCA 2170 and 2120 specifications

SQMC has developed an internal auditor EMS / OHSAS Hybrid course, which makes good use of the compatibility existing between the two standards involved, ISO 14001:2004 and OHSAS 18001:2007.

The two standards share many clauses which are similar in their demands and also share the same commonality with some of the clauses of ISO9001:2008, which is helpful for companies who already have a quality system based on 9001 and would like to operate an integrated management system embracing all three of the standards.

Delegates interested in either 18001 or 14001 are taken through the requirements of these two standards and shown where clause compatibility can be considered, and how it can reduce the duplication of procedure writing. Advantages are also obtained through examination of fewer procedures during the internal audits of companies who have implemented two or more systems.

Organisations who have implemented, or are in a position of implementing ISO14001:2004 and are seeking to train their staff as internal auditors, frequently find they are looking to implement OHSAS18001:2007 thereafter. This is very common as companies quickly see the benefits of 14001 registration and are looking to manage their Health & Safety system more effectively, or are driven by supply chain pressures.

Those interested in 18001 will, similarly, learn when to implement and audit a 14001 environmental management system as well as the 18001 system in which they are interested.

For these reasons, SQMC’s 2-day Internal HSE Auditor programme is becoming more and more popular with our clients – who effectively get two training courses for the price and in the timescale of one!

Aim

The aim of this 14-hour course is to provide participants who intend to perform internal audits with the knowledge and skills needed to assess and report on the conformance and effective implementation of processes, through internal audit, and to contribute to the continual improvement of the Environmental and Occupational Health and Safety Management System.

Who should attend?

People involved in EMS and/or OHSAS auditing activities within their organisations: i.e. staff designated to be Internal Auditors, or those who will be affected by the audits. Also, managers who want to know what to expect from an Internal Audit!

Benefits

Participants will learn what is expected of them - as auditors, or auditees - as per ISO 19,011 Auditing Guidelines. Training in internal auditing provides delegates with a broader understanding of the key processes of an organisation, and of their Environmental and Health and Safety Policies and how they are implemented.

Positive Communication channels are opened up or reinforced by a greater awareness of environmental procedures.

Qualifications

Continuous assessment techniques will apply throughout the course, for the learning objectives tests based on IRCA Specifications 2170 and 2120. Successful completion of the course will be verified by a Scottish Quality Management Centre Certificate of Successful Completion.
