RON RIVANS
BSc, C.Eng, MIM, MCQI, IRCA reg'd QMS Lead Auditor, SQMC Technical Director
Chairman of the Chartered Quality Institute’s West of Scotland branch, Ron is a highly-respected auditor, advisor, and trainer; possessing excellent Accelerated Learning teaching techniques. He has held for many years status with IRCA as an approved trainer for their Quality, Environmental, Occupational Health & Safety, AeroSpace, Information Security and Automotive specifications.
Ron is registered with IRCA (the International Register of Certificated Auditors) as a Lead Auditor for Quality, Environmental and Occupational Health & Safety Management Systems; and literally travels the world conducting third-party Audits for a well-known UKAS-approved Certification Body. This is great news for SQMC clients, as they are in turn able to benefit from his vast wealth of experience across multiple industries (including engineering, service, oil, and legal). Whereas – perhaps Tutors from some other Training Organisations are dedicated to teaching full-time – Ron (and his SQMC colleagues) is out ‘working in the field’, where auditing is his ‘bread and butter’. Therefore, Ron’s practical anecdotes are always up-to-date and relevant to his students, and he is adept to apply our course notes and ISO Standards to each individual’s own area of expertise.
Some of Ron’s recent activities have included work with environmental and health organisations, chemical and alcohol dependency institutions, computer software designers, as well as auditing law firms to the ISO 9001/Lawnet Quality Standard.
Before devoting his career to Quality Improvement and Management Systems, Ron had a successful career as a Chief Metallurgist and Technical Services Manager in the Iron and Steel industry. In the early 1970s, he agreed to take up a position in Taranto, Southern Italy, for one year in order to improve the efficiency of their Oil Country Tubular Goods industry.
A skilled linguist, Ron not only speaks English and Italian fluently, but also Greek, French, and Egyptian Arabic. And whenever possible, he will ditch his car and ride his motorbike to work to beat the hectic Glasgow traffic!
